Jewellery Care Guide for Deliberately Plain Finishes

At Deliberately Plain, we take pride in the fine craftsmanship of our jewellery. Some of our pieces are delicately crafted and require careful handling to ensure they remain in perfect condition. Here’s how to care for each of our finishes:

Gold-Plated Stainless Steel

  • Cleaning: Gently clean your gold-plated stainless steel jewellery with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could strip away the gold layer.
  • Storage: Store your pieces in the soft pouch we provide or a lined jewellery box to prevent scratches and minimise exposure to air, which can cause tarnishing.
  • Tips: Avoid wearing your gold-plated items when showering, swimming, or exercising to prolong the life of the plating. Apply perfumes, lotions, and other beauty products before putting on your jewellery to avoid chemical exposure.

Polished Stainless Steel

  • Cleaning: Use a mild soap and water solution to clean your polished stainless steel jewellery. The provided soft cloth can be used to polish it, bringing back its shine.
  • Storage: Store in a dry place, ideally in the soft cloth pouch we provide to avoid scratches.
  • Tips: While stainless steel is highly durable, some pieces are finely crafted and should be handled with care. Remove your jewellery before engaging in activities that may cause scratches or contact with harsh chemicals.

Gold-Plated 925 Sterling Silver

  • Cleaning: Wipe your gold-plated sterling silver jewellery with the provided soft cloth after each wear to remove oils and dirt. Avoid using silver polish, as it may strip the gold layer.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place, preferably in the provided anti-tarnish pouch or a lined jewellery box. Keep pieces separate to avoid scratching.
  • Tips: Some of our gold-plated silver pieces are intricately designed, requiring careful handling. Remove your jewellery before swimming, showering, or applying lotions and perfumes. Avoid exposure to moisture and chemicals to extend the life of the plating.

925 Sterling Silver

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean your sterling silver jewellery with the provided soft polishing cloth or a silver-specific cleaner to remove tarnish. If tarnishing is significant, a silver dip cleaner can be used, but follow the instructions carefully.
  • Storage: Store in the anti-tarnish pouch or a lined jewellery box to prevent tarnishing. Ensure that the storage area is dry and away from direct sunlight.
  • Tips: Some sterling silver pieces feature delicate craftsmanship, so handle them with care. To minimise tarnishing, avoid exposing your sterling silver jewellery to moisture, salty air, or products containing sulphur, such as some wool and latex. Wearing your silver jewellery regularly can also help prevent tarnish buildup.

By following these care guidelines and handling your jewellery with care, you can ensure that your finely crafted Deliberately Plain pieces remain as stunning and elegant as the day you first wore them.
